Meet Anthony! Our new Master Model Builder!

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester Announces “Master Model Builder” Dream Job Winner!

Anthony Maddaloni of Tarrytown Scores Sought-After Gig at Ridge Hill Interactive Attraction!

Yonkers, NY (January 17, 2017) - It’s a dream of many to get paid to play and it’s a dream come true for one Tarrytown jobseeker. Anthony Maddaloni is officially the new Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester at Ridge Hill in Yonkers. Maddaloni previously owned and operated Practically Alive, a special effects, makeup, prosthetics and props company in Queens. His artistic background and career in practical effects, combined with a passion for the LEGO brand and working with children, vaulted him to the top of the bricks competition.

The Master Model Builder recruitment process involved multiple stages. As part of the interview process, candidates shared their portfolios, professional experience, as well as images of past LEGO builds. Those moving on to the final Brick Factor competition were faced with three themed creation build challenges, each 30 minutes long. Maddaloni combined his background in prop and special effects creation with a passion for building with LEGO® bricks to beat out other highly qualified candidates.

“Anthony has all the qualities we look for in a Master Model Builder,” said Chris Mines, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s General Manager. “He brings his own unique creativity and passion to the job and blends in perfectly with LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s family and its standards for the highest quality service of fun, play and education.” A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Maddaloni majored in filmmaking and minored in studio arts. He also spent a year in Ontario, Canada participating in an advanced special effects graduate program.

“I’ve been playing with LEGO bricks for almost as long as I can remember. I used to create stories and adventures in my living room using my knights and pirates sets,” Maddaloni said. “As I got a little older, I realized that I could bring the mini figures to life using stop motion animation with our family camcorder. Art should inspire art and LEGO is a great way to express that fandom. That passion for building and creating stories with LEGO hasn’t stopped and now and now I’m very excited to have such an innovative and unique job where I can share my love for creating with kids and LEGO fans of all ages.”
